The South Florida Heat are about to start their second successful season of high school boys basketball by adding a varsity team. The South Florida Heat JV boys basketball team had a successful first season led by Assistant Coach Jeff Teason and Head Coach Ashley Jones, the son of basketball Hall of Famer, Sam Jones. The Heat would also like to add their first season of girls basketball. The South Florida Heat FIRST JV Basketball Team had a great season this year with 5 wins. The Heat won two games against Sheridan Hills Christian and Highlands Christian, and an impressive win against International School of Broward, a school that beat them by 18 the first time they played.
The last win came against Highlands Christian, where the boys turned up the heat on defense and forced 40 Highland Christian turnovers. The Heat on the other hand had a season low in turnovers with 8. David F. led the team in points that game, Doug L. led the team in blocks with 5. Ryan T., Matthew R., and Rene F. each had 7 steals a piece. The final score was the South Florida Heat 67 and the Highlands Christian Knights 35.
For a first year JV team the South Florida Heat surprised a lot of teams. At the year end Ceremony Rene F. was announced team MVP. He led the team in rebounds, blocks, and steals. KJ H. was announced the Most Improved Player. He led the team on offense and stepped his game up against Sheridan Hills, to help the Heat win both games. Ryan T. was named team leader, he led the team in assists and put on a steller performance against his former tea, the Highlands Christian Knights. David F. had a great season, he had a great game against the Knights where he scored 26 points and got 13 rebounds. Doug L., the power forward led the team on defense and had a great game against his former team, Calvary Christian, he scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds. The fast and furious Matt R. demolished many teams with his defense, especially Sheridan Hills Christian when he got a season high eight steals. Eight Grader, Austin C. and Alexander K. helped the team out a lot this year and showed their determination to be successfull in practice and games. Daniel K. and Schaeffer S. came into the game numerous times and showed other teams their powerful three point shooting ability. Indiana J., Jordan C., and D.J. F. helped the Heat have a successful season with their hard play on the court.
The South Florida Heat had a great season and everyone cannot wait to see what these group of guys can do on the varsity level.
