Dear Prospective Wrestlers and Parents:
The opportunity to wrestle on the South Florida Heat Home School Team presents some unique opportunities and challenges. Logistically because we are not located on one central campus requires some sacrifice and willingness to meet here in Parkland as best you can 3x per week. Obviously I am very flexible and understand that while we will make every effort there maybe some situations where we must alter the schedule. For this reason it is critical that I have email, cell numbers and text message numbers for all wrestlers and parents involved in the program as it may be necessary on short notice to contact every one on the team. Also, we may have and probably will have other practices scheduled at other locations if and when I am able to coordinate such opportunities with other coaches throughout South Florida. We will also communicate opportunities to participate in tournaments sanctioned by USA Wrestling, AAU Wrestling and other non FHSAA organizations so that you may, attend and wrestle in these particular events, if you so choose. These events are encouraged and recommended whenever possible. They are not part of the South Florida Heat Team schedule. Our schedule as members of the FHSAA will be a series of tournaments and dual meet competitions as yet to be determined.
Wrestling is a unique physically demanding sport that requires a high degree of self-motivation and responsibility. It is expected and a prerequisite for one who expects any degree of success in wrestling to be personally responsible for their own physical conditioning and weight management. There are 14 weight classes which presents the obvious question, "if more then 1 participant is in the same weight class, how will that affect participation?" This is determined by a wrestle off of two out of three matches. The winner wrestles in that weight class. We have the opportunity to participate in both Varsity and Jr. Varsity matches.
Our practices will consist of drilling (practicing wrestling technique) and live wrestling. Obviously there are many questions and issues we will need to cover. Please accept this brief overview as an invite to those who wish to participate in a most challenging and rewarding experience. I am looking forward to meeting and working with you all. Thank you.
You can count on me,
Coach Joe Jiovenetta
